ATL exhibiting at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival 10-13 February 2017

18th January, 2017

1969 marked a point in the Gougeon Brothers careers when they applied all they had learned about wooden structures and epoxy technology to manufacture, for the first time, a product utilising wood/epoxy composite construction.

After working with Dow Chemicals, Meade and brother Jan, developed formulations that became the basis of the WEST SYSTEM® group of products that were introduced to the wooden boat construction market in 1971.  The products could be used as both an adhesive and a coating for wooden boat construction and solved one of wood's most difficult problems - its tendency to absorb moisture.

In 1972, Gougeon Brothers introduced the first WEST SYSTEM Technical Manual to help their customers understand the products, which were like none other on the market, and as they say  …  the rest is history!  Today WEST SYSTEM is internationally recognised as the world's leading marine epoxy.

The WEST SYSTEM epoxy range offers a complete line of products for a wide range of wooden boat building needs.  For new wooden boat construction, it provides the means to build a beautiful and efficient, wood, composite craft, and the same components can be used for wooden boat repairs and restoration.

ATL Composites will be exhibiting at The MyState Australian Wooden Boat Festival in 2017, from February 10 through 13, with the full range of WEST SYSTEM products displayed in the Princes Wharf No 1 building on Hobart's historic waterfront.

Take the opportunity to meet our experienced Technical Team who can answer your questions on the best products for you to use to increase the life-span of your new wooden boat build or repair / maintenance project.

WEST SYSTEM has been manufactured in Australia and New Zealand by ATL Composites since 1977.  An extensive Distribution / Dealer network has been established in both countries and also throughout Asia to ensure that WEST SYSTEM marine epoxy products, including epoxy resins, fillers, specialty epoxies and additives, are readily available to the market with local support for product supply and technical advice.
